MINIMUM WAGE IN CANADA
As of June 26, 2019. The current general minimum wage applies to all employees, with the exception of students under 18 (Alberta, 2019).
This rate is based on the General Minimum Wage. Rates from January 1, 2018, to September 30, 2020 (Ontario, 2019)
As of June 1, 2019. An increment next year of $14.60 effective June 1, 2020, to $15.20 in June 2021(British Columbia, 2019).
As of April 28, 2019. (Government of Northwest Territories, 2019).
As of April 1, 2016, with no age restriction (Nunavut, 2019).
As of April 1, 2018, The Fair Wage Schedule (O.I.C. 2005/193) sets the wage rates (by category, class and job title) that can be paid to persons working on a contract for a public work of the Yukon (Yukon Government, 2019).
General rate as of May 1, 2019. The minimum wage rates are subject to change annually (Commission des Normes, 2019).
Prince Edward Island
General rate as of April 1, 2019. It will increase to $12.85 by April 2020 (Prince Edward Island, 2019).
General rate as of October 1, 2019. The minimum wage applies equally to all employees regardless of age or the number of hours they work. There are restrictions on the type of work people under 18 years of age can do (Manitoba, 2019).
General rate as of April 1, 2019. employers must pay experienced employees at least $11.55 per hour. They must pay inexperienced employees at least $11.05 for each hour of work (Nova Scotia, 2019).
General rate as of April 1, 2019. There is a minimum overtime wage rate. As of April 1, 2019, the minimum wage overtime rate is $17.25 (New Brunswick, 2019).
General rate as of April 1, 2019. Future adjustments to the minimum wage rate will be based on the annual Consumer Price Index for Canada. The new rate will be announced annually by government on April 1 (Newfoundland Labrador, 2019).
General rate as of October 1, 2019. Changes to the minimum wage must be announced on or before June 30th of each year and will take effect on October 1st of the same year to give business owners the ability to plan for the change (Saskachewan, 2019).
