If you love highlands, ocean cities, and white beaches then Nova Scotia is right for you! Nova Scotia Community College has 16 campuses across Nova Scotia. They also offer the most affordable tuition fee across Canada. The school also offers some bursaries/scholarships that could support their financial needs while studying. According to the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), the average selling price of houses in Halifax in 2017 was $298,507 and the Provincial average is much lower at $229,123. This is way cheaper than living in big cities like Vancouver and Toronto. Also, Nova Scotia Community College is part of the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program. I will briefly walk you through on how to get your "Letter of Acceptance" from Nova Scotia Community College.
STEP 1: SELECT YOUR PROGRAM
Select two programs (option 1 and option 2). These will be assessed for eligibility at the same time. In any case, you don't qualify for option 1, then you have the option (2) as your fall back. To choose your program, go to www.nscc.ca. Select the"Program & Choices" and click "Programs" as illustrated below:
Click "A-Z" to see all the list of available programs. Be informed about the meaning of each legend (ie. O - open, W - waiting list, S - Suspended). You can also check in which campus is the program being offered.
STEP 2: CHECK THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In NSCC, they prioritize Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents in Canada. So if you think that the program is quite popular/competitive then you may be placed on a waiting list. Always check if they're accepting "International students" in that program. Also, as per the NSCC website "A number of programs in the Schools of Health & Human Services and Trades & Technology require a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector check and/or Child Abuse Register search to complete work placements (such as fieldwork, internships, co-ops). Please carefully check the admission requirements per program".
EXAMPLE: PRACTICAL NURSING
To check the documentation and language requirement, go to this link and look for the "Philippines" for instance and you will see the list of documents and language requirements.
STEP 3: SUBMIT AND PAY YOUR APPLICATION FOR ASSESSMENT
You have to complete the application form online. You have to provide some of your information such as program details, contact, educational background, etc. Once completed, ensure to pay the nonrefundable application fee of $75.
STEP 4: SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS
1. College Transcript and Diploma (scanned copy or certified true copy or original). Scan copies will only be accepted if received directly from the school in the Philippines.
2. HS Form 137 and Diploma (recommended to submit if you only finished a 2 yr vocational course in the Philippines, with translations provided if with Tagalog words)
3. English Results (The minimum language is score [IELTS] of 6.0 on each test (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking)
***A number of programs in the Schools of Health & Human Services and Trades & Technology require a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector check and/or Child Abuse Register search to complete work placements. Check the admission requirement and coordinate with the admission officer if you require one.
STEP 5: WAITING TIME
Based on my experience, the processing time for the letter of acceptance takes 2-3 weeks from the date they receive your documents. Hence, this will depends on how popular or competitive the program is. Always check the program if it's on the waiting list.
STEP 6: CONFIRMING YOUR LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE
Finally, after getting accepted you need to pay the non-refundable $1,000 deposit to reserve your slot. This letter of acceptance is an integral part of your student permit requirements. You can pay the first semester as per their tuition fee schedule. Again, the tuition fee for the year 2019/2020 is $11,020 per year. The tuition fee increases every year so you have to double-check that yourself. See this link to see the current tuition fee.
